As a #skincareaddict, I’m constantly trying new products. The past few months, my skin suffered from changing weather, lack of consistency, and products that just didn’t work in tandem. I needed to get my skin back on track, using products that would somehow be gentle while clearing up my skin.
This past month, I partnered with BioClarity to reset my skin. Using these products, I could focus on clear skin with a minimal routine.
BioClarity is an acne treatment system designed for teens and young adults. I suppose I’m still a young adult…I mean, I don’t really feel like a real adult most days. Young adult it is! (*hides birth certificate*)
As an acne treatment system, the goal is to, obviously, reduce acne. What sets apart BioClarity is that they balance acne-fighting ingredients with soothing, naturally-derived ingredients (plus their own patented superstar) to reduce redness and inflammation. Using plant-based science, BioClarity has found an acne solution for all skin types (even my dry, sensitive skin!). Their products are 100% vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and paraben-free.
I’d have loved system like this for my teen acne. I used some of the most brutal acne treatments, like benzoyl peroxide, which stripped my skin, leaving it dry and raw.
The routine itself is pared down to 3 basic steps: cleanse, treat, and moisturize.
Step 1: Cleanse
I was a bit nervous this cleanser would be too harsh – I cringe when I hear the word “foaming” because most cleansers that boast foaming dry out my skin.
This cleanser is a bit different than a typical foaming cleanser because the foaming ingredient (sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate) is paired with calming ingredients such as cucumber extract, green tea, and chamomile extract.
This cleanser starts as a clear gel and gets worked into a lather with water. However, the stripped feeling I typically notice with foaming cleansers does not happen. After use, my skin feels clean and balanced.
I love this in the AM, and at night as my second cleanser after a cleansing balm or oil (to remove makeup).
Step 2: Treatment
Keeping skin clean is important for acne prevention, but the Acne Treatment Gel is really the hammer against breakouts.
It contains 2% prescription-grade salicylic acid – that’s the maximum amount allowed. Salicylic acid is a well-known beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that can penetrate the top later of skin to get deep into pores. It is one of the best ingredients out there to reduce blemishes and prevent future breakouts.
I started out using this every other night, working my way up to every night, and eventually using it in the AM occasionally. This white gel is surprisingly gentle, owing to soothing oat kernel extract. It just feels like a light lotion on my skin – no tingling, no dryness, no redness. I should note that I wasn’t a fan of the smell at first, but I don’t notice it anymore.
Best part: this stuff really works. The (suuuuuper) stubborn breakouts on my chin are gone. I’m impressed!
Step 3: Restore Gel
The last step is what makes BioClarity really stand out from other acne treatment companies. The Restore Gel contains their own patented ingredient that you can’t get anywhere else.
Their proprietary ingredient, Floralux™, is naturally-derived from chlorophyll, the green pigment that helps plants absorb energy from the sun during photosynthesis. Turns out, this green stuff is also an amazing skincare ingredient! Their Floralux™ reduces redness and irritation from traditional acne treatments. Combined with licorice root, skin is invigorated, refreshed, clear, and calm.
I’m hugely surprised by how much I love this. The gel (it’s green!) feels so refreshing on my skin, and my skin is so much more calm! I was worried that this wouldn’t offer enough hydration for me, but it’s a great daytime moisturizer. In the PM, I do like to add another moisturizer on top to ensure my skin is completely hydrated through the night.
My skin has made a huge turnaround this past month after weather and product changes threw my skin out of whack, all thanks to BioClarity! You know I’m a huge skincare junkie though, and I’ll never be able to give up trying new products. So for me, I’d prefer to keep BioClarity on hand to detox my skin every once in awhile.
I wish the products were available individually, as I’m pretty much finished with the Restore Gel, but still have a bit of the other two. I do understand the system idea though – using these products in tandem is clearly beneficial for skin.
I definitely recommend checking out BioClarity if you suffer from acne and prefer a simple routine. The 3-step system comes as a 30-day supply, $29.95/month, and they offer a money back guarantee.
