A few months ago, I picked up one of the ultra-luxurious Christian Louboutin lipsticks. I had a percent off coupon to justify the crazy $90 price tag. Although I loved the black packaging that the signature red shades come in, I decided to purchase a nude shade that I thought I could get a lot of wear from – 710 Me Nude, in the Silky Satin formula.
Everything about this lipstick screams luxury. It comes in its own box, which is a shiny cardboard. The lipstick lays inside, with a designated resting place in, of course, Louboutin red. Underneath is a fitted, silky lipstick pouch. Each lipstick “features a unique elixir vial design with a silk ribbon to transform the lipstick into a necklace,” though I honestly find the ribbon to be a little bit annoying. It is removable though.
Swatches + Comparisons
Me Nude is an incredibly wearable shade for me. It is a slightly cool brown-nude, with little peachy or pink undertones. The satin finish gives it life to make lips look healthy.
I’ve compared this lipstick to other nude shades in my collection. For such a price tag, I’d hope to have a unique shade, even if it is wearable.
I don’t have an exact dupe, but MAC’s Yash is quite close. The matte Yash just has a hint of warmth over the satin Me Nude. Velvet Teddy is a little more reddish, while Honeylove and Blankety are lighter.
The formula is outstanding, as I expected. It glides on very easily, with beautiful color in one simple stroke. It’s incredibly comfortable to wear for several hours, and is actually decently hydrating.
This would be the most perfect lipstick to me, but it is quite heavily fragranced. The perfume scent lingers on my lips for over half and hour after application. It’s not tremendously bothersome to me most days, but I could do without.
Is it worth it?
It’s hard to justify these lipsticks. The entire experience, from packaging to product, is high quality and luxurious, but still: that’s a lot of money!
There is a good amount of product at 0.134 oz, making it $671.64 per oz. However, a Tom Ford lipstick at $54 for 0.1 oz is still only $540 per oz (did I really just say “only $540 per oz”??).
Honestly, I would absolutely love to add more Christian Louboutin lipsticks to my collection. I love the Silky Satin formula, I think it being both comfortable and opaque makes it the most preferable of the three formulas for me personally (Sheer Voile, Velvet Matte, Silky Satin). However, the huge price tag deters me for now. If I can find another coupon, I may go for it. I’d really love to add one of the reds to my collection, just for the black casing!
