Dior is on a reformulation spree lately, including their lip glosses. I had no issues with the previous gloss formula, so I was a little surprised that they decided to reformulate. Honestly, if they’re looking to improve any products, I think they should take a look at their eyeshadow quints. Anyway, the new formula is supposed to “more than just a gloss, Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss is a lip plumper and gloss all in one.” Dior also boasts it’s a “hydrating plumping formula produces a natural volume effect instantly and day after day.” I decided to try a shade, 996 Diorosphere.
The packaging looks the same from the outside. However, the wand handle is crystallized so that it is clear and quite polished-looking. There doesn’t seem to be a difference between the actual applicators, so it must truly be a reformulation versus repackaging.
I realized later that the shade I chose was one of three shade ranges out of the Ultra-Gloss. The three shades are as follows:
Sparkling: Colour with a high concentration of glitter
Iridescent: Colour that radiates with fine, contrasting pearlescent pigments
Sheer: Clear, pure colour
Diorosphere is a Sparkling gloss, and it is indeed sparkling. The color looks very dark and purple in the tube, but it appears to be more of a wearable berry. I really love the shade, despite not being as pigmented and dark as I thought. The sparkle translates beautifully on the lips, looking gorgeously wet and ultra shiny.
I also had a sample card with some of the new Dior Addict Ultra-Glosses, so I included them in my swatches. The card contains a sample of each sub-formula, so it’s a good way to see the differences among them.
Cosmic, an Iridescent, is a milky coral-orange with fine shimmer.
Ultradior is a Sparkling, as well as Diorosphere. The sparkles are much larger than the Iridescent Cosmic, plus they have a slightly more sheer finish, which I think makes them look more wet on the lips.
Cruise is a Sheer fuchsia shade, though it is listed on the card as being “watery.” It does appear to be more sheer, and the consistency was actually more watery than the others. The shimmer is minimal and fine.
The formula is actually really impressive. It glides on incredibly easily and feels hydrating. I was nervous about the plumping claims, but it is not at all tingly on my lips. I also do not detect a scent. The sheer color wears very well, remaining comfortable and not at all sticky.
*Edit: I have an updated post with more swatches here, as my collection has now grown a bit. Still totally obsessed with these.
Though I had no issues with the old Dior Addict Gloss formula, I’m in love with this new Dior Addict Ultra-Gloss! At $30, it’s a fairly expensive gloss, but I think it’s truly the best gloss I’ve ever used. I’ll be picking up a few more for sure!
