Update: I no longer support Kat Von D Beauty and have removed any affiliate links from this post. I have not otherwise changed the contents of this post for anyone looking for an objective review of the eyeshadow.
The Kat Von D Shade + Light saga continues with four perfectly curated quads to enhance your individual eye color. The four quads were available for purchase starting on March 29, 2016 at Sephora. I couldn’t decide which one(s) to order, so I bought all four quads: Plum, Rust, Sage, and Smoke.
I will be testing each quad for review and writing a new post for each, sharing Smoke today. See my initial review for Plum with a couple of extra packaging and product details.

Shades and Swatches
Smoke contains “matte cool grays for all eye colors.” The shades are definitely cool-toned, and perfect to make the quintessential smoky eye.
As expected, the shadows in this quad swatch up to par with Kat’s other shadows. The black “Define” shade again felt a little bit stiffer, but was actually very pigmented in a single swipe. Like the Rust quad, the “Highlight” shade was matte but had some sparkles in it to create a slightly more satin-matte finish.
I again followed the instructions from the insert to “lift” the eye. The shadows looked incredibly cool, even on my cool-toned skin, until I added the “Define” shade (last step). This pulled the entire look together. I was very happy with the end result, though those with warmer or neutral skin tones might prefer to add a warmer tone in the crease. I love the look on its own, but it could also be changed up by adding some shimmer on the lid. The shadows lasted all day with no issues.
The Smoke quad has actually become my most used of the series. It is so perfect for a smoky eye with no effort and I always love the result.
I’m loving the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Smoke! It’s perfect to create an easy, no-fail smoky eye. It might be quite cool for some skin tones, but it works really well for me.
