My daily skincare routine focuses mainly on hydration and general anti-aging for my dry skin. I have other skincare issues I like to address too though – texture and uneven tone/redness, plus the occasional minor breakout. Given the opportunity to try a mask that would focus not only on removing impurities, but addressing other general anti-aging properties, I jumped!

Prior to this opportunity, I had not heard of Valentia Skincare. After reading about them on their Facebook and Instagram pages, I thought their brand was a good fit for me. They boast their use of natural and organic ingredients, plus they’re cruelty-free.

I have gotten to try their Skin Detoxifying Clay Mask*. There are tons of power-packed ingredients in the mask, so here is the brand’s overview of the key ingredients:

CLEANSES & EXFOLIATES: Kaolin Clay works in this mask to effectively draw out impurities caused by the environment, leaving skin clean, clear, and smooth.
POWERFUL NATURAL INGREDIENTS: Hibiscus & Cranberry fibers, Spirulina and Astaxanthin have all been chosen exclusively for Valentia Detoxifying Clay Mask because they increase collagen production, anti-aging properties, reduce free radicals and restore skin elastic for a tighter and smoother appearance.
YOUNG & HEALTHY GLOW: CoQ10 is a key ingredient that reduces the appearance of wrinkles by stimulating collagen productions to reduce free radicals that can cause premature signs of aging. Smoothes out an uneven skin tone with astaxanthin, which is known to restore skin’s natural elasticity so your skin looks and feels healthy.
REDUCE SIGNS OF AGING: One of the main ways in which free radicals damage skin and cause premature aging is by attacking the skin and leaving it weak and loose. Valentia Detoxifying Clay Mask reverses that damage so the skin is firm and strong, leaving you looking stronger and healthier.
SPA AT HOME: Pamper your skin with an expensive spa treatment right at home. Apply the clay mask and leave on for less than 15-20 minutes, grab your warm water and towel and wash gently off. Get the same deep cleanse and skin exfoliation the spa offers for less money and in the comfort of your home.

I generally enjoy a clay mask to manage a breakout, though they usually dry my skin out quite a bit. I love that there are other benefits to this mask too.

I was pleasantly surprised to see the nice outer packaging with gold trim. The cardboard used is shiny, sleek, and good-quality. The front of the box highlights the overall goals of the mask, plus notes that the product is alcohol and paraben free.

The sides of the box note the important ingredients, while the back contains directions and a summary of the mask.

The product itself is a nice 4 oz, in a plastic jar with a twist-off lid.

Upon opening the jar, I immediately noticed the smell; however, it is not a bad smell (to me), it smells like a delicious blueberry juice. I initially scooped the product with my finger, though I should have cleaned a spatula to use. There are little dark blue specks in the mask that feel slightly gritty, but were not noticeably so on my skin. The overall consistency is wet and on the thin side, so when I went to apply it to my face, it smoothed more easily over my skin than a lot of other masks without making a huge mess. I wanted to use a fairly thin layer, though inevitably, there were spots where I ended up with more product than others.

Immediately after application, I noticed a tingling, especially around my nose. It was slightly uncomfortable and I thought about removing the mask, but there are a lot of masks that are tingling that I enjoy. The tingling stopped quickly – it lasted about 60 seconds total. I have fairly sensitive skin, so possibly most people wouldn’t notice a tingle. In fact, I read a huge percentage of their product reviews on their product page, and found just a handful of reviews mentioning this sensation. Most people weren’t too bothered by it, as the tingling went away and they were happy with the results.

The mask took about 15 minutes to fully dry. The blueberry juice scent disappeared while drying. I used a washcloth with warm water in circular motions to remove the mask. I felt like I was gently exfoliating my skin. There was no trouble in removing the mask. Below is a sample of the mask applied to my hand just after application, and after allowing 13 minutes to dry.

My skin felt slightly dry, but clean, smooth, and firm. There was a little bit of redness in my usual spots, but it went away within an hour. My pores looked slightly smaller. I did my regular skincare routine, but skipped makeup for the day, with the exception of mascara. When I looked in a mirror a few hours later, I realized my skin looked amazing. My redness was completely at bay and my skin was glowing! I ended up having the best skin day.

I can’t really directly compare this mask to any others I’ve tried, as it does different things. However, I do think this mask is a wonderful deal at $25 for 4 oz. The Glamglow Supermud mask, for instance, is $69 for just 1.2 oz. The Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask is $26 for 3.4 oz.

I really enjoyed my results from the Valentia Skin Detoxifying Clay Mask. I had an amazing skin day after using it! If you have sensitive skin, I’d take caution about the potential tingling sensation. For me, this mask is entirely worth a small amount of tingling. Overall, I would definitely recommend this mask if you don’t have sensitive skin.
