Ah, facial mists, how I love thee. I have several in my collection and there are many on my wishlist to buy.
Caudalie Grape Water is a very gentle, hydrating mist. It has a light grape scent and is perfect for sensitive skin. It feels very refreshing, but can be a tad heavy, as if there is actually water on my face. After a hard workout, my face gets very red, sensitive, and dry. I use this (or the Evian mist, described below) on my face to calm and hydrate my skin – I can’t let anything else touch my face when it is that irritated.$22/6.7 oz
MAC Fix+ is a classic. I use it before applying foundation to add a boost of hydration to my skin that will help my makeup apply flawlessly. It feels amazing on my skin, but can take awhile to absorb. Fix+ is also my go-to for wetting my makeup brushes to apply eyeshadow with greater impact.
The Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water is a slightly “drier” mist than Fix+. It feels very light, but does add a bit of moisture to my skin to aid in better foundation application. After I finish this bottle, I will likely not purchase (this bottle was a gift).
Yes, I’m in love with the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. It truly does add the most beautiful luminosity to my skin. It feels light and hydrating, adding a boost before and after makeup application. I would use this at every step if I could afford it! The bottle and sprayer are just so incredibly luxe.
One of my favorite products ever is the Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50. A setting mist with SPF! This is my solution to one of the biggest beauty issues: how do you reapply SPF when you’ve got a full face of makeup on? It’s this. The mist is surprisingly light and applies very well. My one pet peeve is that I have to make sure I don’t inhale while spraying because the scent is fairly strong.
I enjoy the Kat Von D Lock ‘N Load Setting Mist, though it appears to now be unavailable. It has a light cucumber scent and really does a great job keeping my makeup in place.
My friend gave me the AmorePacific Moisture Bound Skin Energy Hydration Delivery System. This is probably the closest product to the Tatcha for me. The sprayer is lovely, delivering product evenly and lightly. It’s refreshing and adds a hint of luminosity, but not quite as much dewiness and hydration as the Tatcha. It has an odd scent to me – it kind of reminds me of how babies smell (kind of powdery?). I like to use this during my skincare routine to help my serums penetrate my skin better. Though the bottle is more expensive, there is way more product than the Tatcha.
The Pixi Hydrating Milky Mist is rumored to be a dupe for the Tatcha spray. It is not hydrating at all for me, nor does it deliver any sort of luminosity. I am still struggling to find uses for this spray at the moment. I’m pretty disappointed.
The Evian Facial Spray is the OG to me. It is the first mist I ever purchased and it remains a staple in my collection. I love the travel-friendliness. It is super hydrating and gentle, and, as mentioned above, is one of the only two products that can touch my hyper-sensitive skin after a workout.
I’m not really a fan of the Caudalie Beauty Elixir, though I know a lot of people love it. There is a strong alcohol scent to me and it burns my skin slightly. I’ve had this travel size for awhile, and I’ll be tossing it.
I love facial mists! Each can serve a different purpose: adding luminosity, prepping skin for makeup or skincare, boosting hydration, and/or setting makeup in place. What are your favorite mists?
