Foundation may not seem like the most exciting makeup item; I’m usually too distracted by pretty colors to explore base products. However, foundation has its name for a reason, as it is the real foundation of a look. I’ve come to appreciate the importance of foundation recently, as I’ve figured out how to make it work for me better.
Two foundations that have positively impacted my love for foundation are the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundations, both the liquid* and the stick* form. The Ultra HD foundations were designed to “provide medium to buildable coverage with an even lighter weight, second-skin texture that looks just like skin.” These foundations have really upped my foundation game by making it easy to gain a more flawless base.
The original (liquid) version has a thin consistency, but isn’t overly watery. It comes with an efficient pump, which is always a nice bonus. Coverage is light to medium, but easily buildable and blendable. The finish is gorgeous – natural in a healthy way. I have no issues with this foundation separating or caking. It lasts almost all day: at around 8 hours of wear, I notice my redness peeking through a bit. The foundation contains hyaluronic acid, which explains why I don’t see any issues of separation or clinging to dry patches. There is no SPF, so this is the perfect foundation for photography.
The stick version has a lot of the same qualities as the original. Coverage starts medium, but is easily built up for full coverage. The finish is healthy and natural as well, without being noticeable on the skin. I do think the stick version can cling to dry spots or texture slightly more than the liquid version. I’m still thoroughly impressed with the creamy formula that blends out so easily. Plus, a stick foundation can be easily tossed in a bag, so it is perfect for touch-ups or travel.
I have both foundations in shade R230 (ivory). There are many shades to choose from in the liquid line, so it was a bit overwhelming trying to figure out my shade online. I’m pleased that R230 is a great match for me. Swatches below are on my inner arm, which is lighter than my face.

I’ve also paired this review with a video where I feature these foundations in a full-coverage foundation routine if you’re interested:
I’m loving the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD foundations! Out of the two, it’s hard to choose which I prefer. I love the mobility of stick foundations, but the liquid is one of the most simple, effective formulas I’ve used. The liquid retails for $43 for 1.01 oz, while the stick is the same price for just 0.44 oz, as you normally get less product with stick foundations.
Thanks to Make Up For Ever and Influenster for providing these Ultra HD foundations for review! I’m happy to be part of the #UltraHDGeneration! 🙂
