I’m back with another product from one of my favorite skincare brands, Valentia! I’ve reviewed two products from the brand previously: the Skin Detoxifying Clay Mask and Pure Glow Brightening Moisturizer. Check out the full reviews for details, but both have become staples in my routine for clear, glowing skin. If you want to learn more about a brand, I always suggest checking out their social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, etc), or their website.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been testing the Night Revive Retinol Serum*. This serum is boasted as “a transformative retinol serum that fights wrinkles and provides hydration, for visibly smoother, rejuvenated skin.”

I am a bit cautious with products containing retinol, but my skin seems to usually be a fan of the powerhouse ingredient. Retinol, commonly known as vitamin A, has been shown to prevent wrinkles and firm skin, even out skin tone, and stop breakouts.

Besides retinol, this serum contains antioxidant vitamins C and E for general anti-aging and hydration. Squalane is another skincare superstar that is known to not only soften and hydrate skin, but to deeply penetrate skin to diminish fine lines and protect against free radicals for anti-aging. Squalane is a controversial ingredient as some companies harvest this oil from sharks, but Valentia consciously derives their squalane from pure olive oil.

The serum is housed in a brown glass bottle with a secure screw top lid and dropper. The brown glass is crucial to prevent retinol and the other antioxidant ingredients from breaking down by the air and light.

Valentia notes that it’s important to shake the bottle before use, as the natural ingredients can separate. I shake for a moment and apply two drops, starting with my face and applying the excess product to my hands, neck, and chest. It absorbs beautifully with no residue on my hands or face (*cough* Sunday Riley Luna Oil *cough*). It feels lightly hydrating with zero irritation and redness. There is no scent that I detect.

I’ve been using this serum every two to three nights, and I’m very impressed. I wake up to beautiful, soft skin. I often experience texture issues on my cheeks, in the form of small bumps. Since I’ve started using this serum, I have not noticed these bumps! This retinol serum is very gentle, but effective. I could possibly increase my use to nightly, but I’m happy using it three nights a week. I’d still recommend to start slow with a product of this nature, as different skin types can react to products so differently.

I am glad that Valentia put “night” in the serum name in hopes that users will only use the product at night. Skin can be hyper-sensitive to sun exposure after using retinol. I use SPF every morning, but I wanted to point out that it is especially important to remember to apply a high SPF the following few mornings after using a product containing retinol at night.

This Night Revive Retinol Serum might be my favorite product yet from Valentia! It is easy to use, gentle, and completely effective. I am always impressed by Valentia’s use of high quality ingredients with the reasonable price point. This serum retails for just $35 for 1.18 oz, and can be purchased from their website or their Amazon store.
