I don’t think I’ve come into a new year with such a sour taste in my mouth. I don’t expect much from a given year, just that it doesn’t suck tremendously. 2016 was such a bummer, especially the latter part of the year in which we had several family tragedies. I’ve never been one for resolutions, but I think this new year calls for a total attitude adjustment on my part. I’m ready to take charge of this year.
FITNESSㅣFor one thing, I really want to focus on losing a bit of weight and being healthy. After Luke’s father passed in October, I turned to food for comfort. I’m still sitting in those bad habits of having candy after dinner or drinking way too much Diet Coke. I downloaded an app called Lifesum that has a nice interface for tracking calories. My realistic weight loss goal is 10 lbs, and I’ve set it for a reasonable 0.5 lbs a week for now. I don’t want to feel like I’m starving myself when I’m used to overeating. I’m hoping to also get back to exercise, at least 3 times a week (which is better than none!).
BEAUTYㅣI want to make sure I pay even more attention to skincare and body care. Forgetting to remove makeup at the end of the day is unacceptable; it takes my skin about a week to recover from such a discretion! I am going to start removing my makeup once I get home from the lab when I’m not too sleepy to clean my face. Furthermore, I can be pretty lazy about body moisturizer, and I rarely remember to exfoliate. I’ve moved a body oil into the bathroom so that I can use it directly out of the shower. Making my life easier makes my goals more achievable.
DECLUTTERㅣSometimes I get a bit overwhelmed by my collection. I’ve decided to take on a pretty difficult task: finish 17 products in 2017. I’m just polishing off the list and will use YouTube to track my progress. I wasn’t insanely successful with the finish 5 by fall challenge I did a few months ago, but it was great to get an idea of how long products will last. I’m hoping I can clear out these 17 items, making my collection a little more manageable.
PHOTOGRAPHYㅣI’ve talked about some of my photography frustrations before, but it’s something I really want to get the hang of in 2017. I’ve been a little less afraid to try some new things with photography to find what works. I just bought a new lens for my Sony A6000 as my Christmas present, so hopefully that will help me amp up my photos.
POSITIVE ATTITUDEㅣOverall, I’m trying my best to stay optimistic for the year. It won’t be an easy year, as I should be wrapping up my PhD for graduation by the end of the year, or early 2018.
I’m wishing you all a happy 2017, and I thank you for your support here on my blog, plus YouTube and Instagram!
