Being on a no-buy is tough business. Scrolling through Instagram and reading through blog posts usually do a number on my wallet, but I’ve been staying fairly strong. (Okay, I placed one order from The Ordinary, but the products are sooo inexpensive! Does that even count?) In order to stave off spending urges, I have been trying to shop my stash a bit. In doing so, I uncovered a few products that I completely had forgotten about that I used to love.
I noticed two small compacts in my cheek drawer that I honestly couldn’t identify at first. They turned out to be from Kevyn Aucoin: my previously beloved Sculpting Powder in Medium and Celestial Powder in Candlelight. These two are the epitome of contour and highlight. The contour powder is perfectly balanced – not too cool to look muddy, not too warm. Candlelight is a very timeless, elegant highlighter that bestows glow without glitter.
Can you believe there was a time when I never used matte eyeshadow? The Dior Eye Reviver palette was made of my shimmery shadow dreams. I recently used the palette again, lining my eyes with the cake liner and smoking it up with the two darker shadows. The look was somehow soft and edgy – I was a happy camper.
One of my first high-end lipsticks was the YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in Pink in Confidence. I believe this line has been reformulated to RVS Oil-in-Stick lipsticks to add deeper hydration, though I just have the old formula. The color is just beautiful: my lips but (much) better. I love the shine, comfort, and just-right coverage. I’m not crazy about the scent of YSL lipsticks, but usually it dissipates quickly enough that I get over it.
The Smashbox Fusion Lights Blush in Prism is pale pink perfection, adding a hint of color and sheen. I had no idea that this blush was discontinued though. I feel so bad for mentioning it!
So, this is my apology to my forgotten makeup. Have you recently rediscovered any makeup in your collection?
