I was on a no-buy for pretty much all of 2017 so far. It was incredibly difficult – buying new things is just a habit to me. This wasn’t really by choice though. I slipped a couple of times, but I am very proud with how I handled not being able to buy every little thing I wanted.
I’m happy to announce that my no-buy is now officially over!
The No-Buy is Over
I learned so much on my no-buy, especially how to properly manage my finances. I really want to carry that financial responsibility with me from this point on.
For instance, though most of my student loans are deferred while in grad school, I want to get going on paying these back. I was just able to finish one of them, and I’m close on another.
There are also so many things that Luke and I need to save up for, like buying a house one day and our wedding (we’ll have to pay for this by ourselves). Yes, I’m thinking about all sorts of adult things. But I’m less afraid of it now.
I had to celebrate the end of my no-buy somehow, right? I made 3 orders and called it quits from there. I spent a little more than I meant to, but I think I’ll enjoy everything I chose.
The first order I placed was from Sephora. I grabbed the Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil because rose. I was just browsing the site, saw it, and ordered it. It was nice to have that freedom, but I don’t want to fall back into placing my regular 1-3 Sephora orders per week.
This oil is amazing though. I am in loooove with the scent – it is a bit rosy, but subtle and fresh. The oil part is nice too, it feels nice on my skin and doesn’t weigh my hair down.
I knew that when my no-buy was over I wanted to order a scent from Byredo. I couldn’t decide which one to get, so I picked up the Bestsellers trio from Neiman Marcus.
This set comes with Bal d’Afrique, Blanche, and Gypsy Water. I’m horrible at describing scents, but I will wear them all. Blanche is my least favorite – I think it smells kind of old lady-ish but not bad. Bal d’Afrique is kind of spicy and sexy, reminiscent of a man’s cologne. Gypsy Water smells like vanilla to me and is magical.
Then I ordered from Glossier. The addiction is real. I picked up two Cloud Paints (Dusk and Puff), Perfecting Skin Tint (Light), Priming Moisturizer, and a Generation G Lipstick (Cake).
I had a sample of the Priming Moisturizer from my first order and I thought it would be the perfect summer moisturizer. The Gen G in Cake is a pretty nude MLBB lipstick, a bit more subtle than I anticipated, but very pretty. The Perfecting Skin Tint is very low-coverage, but nice to quickly even out skin while feeling like nothing. The Cloud Paints are so nice. A little goes a long way! Dusk is actually a great bronzer shade for me, while Puff is that perfect pretty pink to give my cheeks some life. Edit: See my full review of the Cloud Paints after using them for several months!

Now that my no-buy is over, I don’t plan to revert back to my old ways. I have so much in my collection, I really don’t need to be buying everything in sight, just for these things to be sitting around unused. I guess I’ll call this a low-buy.
For my next purchases, I am actually planning on picking up several of my favorite items for a big giveaway here on the blog. I’ve been planning this for months, and I can’t wait until I have everything prepared to do it!
