I’m a huge fan of MAC lipsticks. They offer so many gorgeous shades in classic formulas that can’t be beat. From everyday shades to shimmering metallics, plus every color in between, MAC is top tier in my book.
Of course, the most famous lipstick brand would completely nail liquid lipsticks as well with their Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour* formula.
Shades & Swatches
I have 10 shades from MAC’s lineup of 31:
Back in Vogue – peachy nude
Burnt Spice – creamy dirty rose
Café Au Chic – greyed beige
So Me – greyed plum
Topped With Brandy – deep dirty rose
Dance With Me – deep cranberry red
Fashion Legacy – intense fire truck red
High Drama – deep dark plum
Oh, Lady – deep wine
To Matte With Love – bright raspberry
In general, the nudes are on the dark side, but that makes them perfect for fall. Honestly, I love all of these shades, but if you force me to pick my top 3, I’d choose Burnt Spice, So Me, and To Matte With Love. Then I’d throw something to distract you, grab the other 7 shades, and run.
The MAC liquid lipsticks have a traditional formula, so they dry down to a matte, transfer-proof finish. This means that they can feel a little bit drying on my lips, but not any more than other liquid lipsticks of this type. I generally apply lip balm first to ensure my lips are fully prepped.
The formula is quite thin, but most shades are fully opaque in one swipe (the exception being High Drama, the darkest shade). I generally apply a shade to my top and bottom lips, press my lips together to evenly distribute color, and blot with a tissue. These dry down within about a minute and look perfect.
These liquid lipsticks last very well with none or minimal transfer – at least 6 hours on me (through constant eating, I may add). Most of the time, the color wears away evenly. Again, in the case of High Drama, the color can be a little patchy.
Also worth mentioning: the applicator is very easy to use, but it does tickle my lips upon application. I am ridiculously ticklish though.
The MAC liquid lipsticks have easily become one of my favorite liquid lip formulas. They are user-friendly and dependable – everything a good liquid lipstick (and a man, am I right??) should be.
