Admittedly, my lips are one of the areas that makes me most self-conscious. They’re on the small side, but I’m more frustrated by the lack of evenness. I’m not looking for Kylie-sized lips – just a little more plump and healthy-looking.
I heard about the PMD Kiss Lip Plumping System* from Kate Loves Makeup, and it sounded like exactly what I wanted for my lips. Keep reading for my full review + a way to save 20% off your purchase of the device!
PMD Kiss Plumper
The PMD Kiss Plumper system uses “pulsating vacuum technology” to plump lips.
What it is:
“PMD Kiss is a smart anti-aging lip plumping treatment. It plumps the look of lips in just minutes creating visible results for hours. Continued daily use boosts collagen which increases the look of fullness, fades the appearance of lip lines & wrinkles and revitalizes natural lip color.”
So, the plumping effects wouldn’t be permanent, but the overall health of my lips could be improved.
The system comes with the PMD Kiss Device, Smart Lip Plumping Serum, 2 changeable Kissers (small and large), a USB charging cord, and a 1-year warranty.
How to Use
Before I used the device for the first time, I charged it fully with the given USB cable. This took about 2 hours.
PMD has several directions and how-to videos on their site, which I found very helpful. I recommend checking out their official directions if you are using this device for the first time, but following is a general protocol for use of the system:
- Apply the Smart Lip Plumping Serum on clean (dry) lips.
- Turn on the Kiss Device. There are two modes: Standard and Low. Standard is for a quicker plump, while the Low speed is for a “more intense, targeted plump.”
- Press the tip onto lips to create a tight seal.
- Allow the device to pulse at least 10 times per section of lips. You can hear and feel the pulses each time.
I was a bit timid to use a vacuum device on my lips to be honest. I slathered on the serum to ensure my lips were protected. The serum has a slightly minty, warming effect (lasting about 5-10 minutes for me). I love that the serum has hyaluronic acid, which is one of my favorite ingredients to help skin hold moisture.
Okay, now for the scary part: using the device. I turned it on, and could hear the vacuum pulses. It’s not too loud, but it’s audible. I pressed it to the left side of my top lip and let it pull. It wasn’t uncomfortable at all. I could hear and feel each pulse, and counted to 10 pulses. That was easy!
When I switched over to my right, top lip, I missed. It didn’t quite make a seal, but it didn’t hurt. I readjusted and could feel the correct pulsing sensation. I followed with the left and right sides of my bottom lip, then the center of my top and bottom lips.
I could definitely tell my lips were more plump after the first use, plus my lips had a rosier tone. The results are subtle – not enough that anyone would think I had work done. I asked Luke if he noticed anything different (without telling him what I had done), and he complimented my eyeshadow before asking, “Oh, are you wearing a plumping lip product or something?” Pretty much the exact reaction I wanted!
I have now been using the PMD device for the past 2 months. I try to use it each morning before I apply makeup.
My thin lips have just a slight enhancement that makes me feel more confident wearing bold lipstick. I feel like I have a more even, natural lip line shape to follow, plus lipstick application is easier. I even think matte liquid lipsticks apply and wear better, not settling into lines.
The plumping results last anywhere from 2-5 hours for me, but I’ve noticed that reapplying the serum can reinvigorate my lips to bring some plump back.
Overall, I think my lips look healthier. The color of my lips is more pink and even-toned. I don’t have many noticeable lines on my lips, but I believe that lines would be diminished since my lips are retaining moisture better.
Before + after
I took selfies directly before and after usage of the system, with 20 pulses on each of the 6 sections of my lips. I did not have anything on my lips prior and the only thing on my lips after is the leftover serum. I tried to keep my lips in the exact same pose for each shot.
The plumping effect is a little subtle in photos. It is very obvious to me in person since I have such small lips to start. More noticeable is probably that my lips look more pink. Just a hint of plumping and color gives me much more confidence. I’m a little bummed that I haven’t figured out how to get my lips to be more symmetric with the device, but I’ll keep practicing.
